FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short, practical answers. If you can't find yours, get in touch.

Coming to climb

Do I need to book to come climbing?

No. You don't need to book for open climbing. Your first visit, though, should be during staffed opening hours.

Your first time
When can I buy a pass?

During staffed opening hours.

Opening hours
Can I come during unstaffed hours?

Only if you're a member, have a multi-visit card, or are already inside the gym. Passes aren't sold during those slots.

What are the rules for minors?

In the main gym, under-15s must climb with a responsible adult, except students on our courses with express authorisation from a parent or legal guardian. Minors aged 15 to 17 can come unaccompanied with a signed consent form from a parent or legal guardian. Eskola has its own rules.

Consent for minors
How much does climbing shoe rental cost?

In the main gym: adults 3 €, students 2 €, txikis up to and including age 11, 1 €.

Is there a Gautxori discount for students or under-22s?

No. Neither the 8 € Gautxori pass nor Gautxori memberships (monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annual) carry a student or under-22 discount. The only applicable discount is the 15% large-family discount (Gautxori pass: 6.80 €). Other promotions can't be combined.

Do I need to bring chalk?

No. The main gym has free liquid chalk dispensers included in your pass. You can also use loose chalk.

Is there parking?

Yes, parking is easy: next to the Salburua wetlands there's plenty of free on-street parking. There's no reserved spot for each visitor and we can't guarantee a space at all times, but it's usually easy to park nearby.

How to get here
Can the gym be closed on some days?

Yes, occasionally. An active gym hosts championships, special training sessions, events and routesetting, and sometimes access to certain areas has to be limited or the gym closed for a day. We announce this as far in advance as possible on Opening Hours and on our social media.

Opening hours and notices
What happens to my membership if there's a closure?

Memberships are subject to facility availability: access may occasionally be restricted for sporting, organisational or maintenance reasons. We try to keep these occasional and to give advance notice. This doesn't limit the rights consumer regulations give you; if a closure were to be extended, we'd work it out with you.

What if my class is cancelled due to an event?

If an organised activity prevents a class from running, you'll be able to make it up in another compatible group, subject to availability, from the make-up page. In that case the usual 6-hour notice period doesn't apply — that only applies when you're the one missing the class.

How often are the boulders reset?

We set new boulders two to three days a week: each week we reset around 10 to 12 boulders.

Are there courses on public holidays?

No. On public holidays that fall on weekdays, weekend hours apply at both facilities and there are no courses.

Main gym and Eskola

What's the difference between Urban Boulder and Eskola?

They're two independent facilities, facing each other. The main gym is for children, teens and adults; Eskola is designed for children, with its own hours and prices.

Prices
Can I use my main gym pass at Eskola?

No. Passes and cards from one facility don't grant access to the other.

Can I be a member of both facilities?

Yes. And if your child is under 12 and you're an active member of the main gym, their Eskola membership drops from 20 € to 10 € a month.

How much does registration cost?

In the main gym, 50 € standard and 30 € for students and children, one per family. Until 31 December 2026, standard registration costs 30 € and includes a free T-shirt and hoodie. Eskola has no registration fee.

Prices
What is the maintenance fee?

It costs 10 € a month and its only purpose is to keep your registration active while you're not using your regular membership. It doesn't give access to the gym or let you climb. When you reactivate a regular membership, you won't pay the registration fee again.

What hours does the "7 days mornings" rate cover?

From 9:00am to 2:00pm, within the gym's opening days and general hours. The general membership table applies from age 16 upward.

Up to what age can you go to Eskola?

Eskola is for children under 12 (up to and including age 11), for both single passes and memberships. Adults accompany and supervise, but don't climb.

What discount do I get if my child is already a member at the main gym?

10 € off the monthly Eskola fee (10 € instead of 20 €), for under-12s with a 1-, 2- or 7-day membership. No second registration fee is charged.

How many times per weekend can an Eskola member come?

One day per weekend, Saturday or Sunday — not both days of the same weekend.

Can I stay with my child inside Eskola?

Yes, and it's required: during open climbing, children must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult, actively supervising.

Can adults climb at Eskola?

No. At Eskola only children climb; adults accompany and supervise.

Birthdays, schools and groups

Do you offer snacks for birthday parties?

Not directly. There are several bars and restaurants nearby, in Salburua, where you can arrange that afterwards; if you'd like, we can recommend somewhere for you to contact directly. Snacks/refreshments are independent of Urban Boulder.

How do I book a birthday party?

Send a request from the birthdays page. Once we confirm availability, the instructors' fee is paid in advance and the rest on the day of the party.
